The Fiberarts Alliance of Asheville, which started as a small group some 5+ years ago is growing in leaps and bounds. Yesterday we had 61 members attend, all bringing something to show or share or both. You can imagine the amount of creative energy flying around coming at us from all directions. Yesterday was "bag" day. Besides the regular show and tell, members were to told to "bring a bag you've made to show". They were gorgeous, funny, interesting, functional, unique and just wonderful to see. I will add that everyone was happy to pass their treasures throughout the membership so we could carefully hold and pour over each one up close and personal. Although I wasn't able to get the names attached to many of the items, all members present happily gave me the "go ahead" to post. This bag started with a placemat, a very elegant one uses lots of interesting threads and yarns across the top.
I love the colors and touch of hot pink on this next one.
This next bag made from recycled jeans made me laugh - so clever. The maker calls it her "butt bag"...
and the front.
This next bag was gorgeousand used wonderful yarns and notice the bead treatment along the top.
There were also many wonderful felted hats
and many beautiful felted landscapes by Frances Williams. Frances dyes her own rovings, designs the landscapes and felts the pieces. Then if that weren't enough, embellishes them further with stitching and beads. Frances uses a "museum wrap" technique with stretcher bars to wrap the silk around and then mounts the felted piece of top of that.
They are all so beautiful with so much detail.
A great meeting with great gals and more to follow.
Until next time
